Damascus, March 28 (SANA) Units of the Syrian Arab Army‘s border guards have foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the Syrian-Lebanese frontier, the Ministry of Defense said on Saturday.
The Ministry’s Media and Communication Department told SANA that the operation took place in the rugged Jroud Assal al-Ward area along the border.
According to the statement, the forces seized a quantity of Captagon pills that had been prepared for illegal transfer from Lebanon into Syrian territory.
The ministry added that border guards engaged in a brief exchange of fire with the smugglers, who subsequently fled the area. No casualties were immediately reported.
Security forces have since launched search and sweep operations in the area, aiming to arrest those responsible and prevent further smuggling attempts.
This operation comes within the framework of ongoing efforts by Syrian forces to strengthen border security and combat drug smuggling operations active in border areas.
