Sweida, March 20 (SANA) The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the successful foiling of an attempt to smuggle weapons and ammunition intended for hostile acts by outlaw groups. The operation took place along the strategic road linking Busra al-Sham and Baka in the Sweida countryside.
The Ministry stated that the intervention followed the detection of an infiltration attempt by members of criminal groups near internal security outposts. These movements coincided with suspicious activity by hostile vehicles, indicating a broader criminal plot aimed at destabilizing the security and safety of the region.
Upon identifying the threat, specialized units immediately raised their combat readiness and maneuvered into tactical positions to surround the targets. When security forces moved to intercept the group, the outlaws opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange. The clash resulted in the neutralization of two gang members and the wounding of two others, while two additional individuals were taken into custody.
Beyond the arrests, the operation yielded the seizure of significant quantities of diverse weaponry and ammunition found in the possession of the cell.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed that this operation is part of the ongoing, tireless efforts by the Internal Security Forces in Sweida province to pursue outlaw groups. These measures remain central to the national strategy of reinforcing law and order and ensuring the continued stability of the governorate and its citizens.
