Idlib, Mar.19 (SANA) The Ministry of Defense’s Media and Communications Department said on Thursday that the military engineering units of the Syrian Arab Army responded immediately to calls for help from affected residents in the eastern Idlib countryside and the southern Aleppo countryside.
“Military units, along with a number of heavy engineering vehicles, were urgently dispatched to areas experiencing flash floods and flooding that pose a direct threat to civilian lives,” the Media department told SANA in a statement.
The army units are currently working, in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency and Disasters’ Management and Idlib Governorate, to reinforce the Siha dam in Abu al-Duhur area, part of which collapsed. If the dam were to completely collapse, it would threaten several neighboring villages, potentially exacerbating the humanitarian situation for the residents of those villages, it added.
The heavy rainstorm that hit the region in the past few hours led to the formation of torrents and floods, and the rise in water levels in roads, homes and camps, and the flooding of large agricultural areas in many regions and causing damage to them, as the authorities concerned were mobilized and raised their readiness to deal with the repercussions of the weather conditions.
