Hasakah, March 19 (SANA) Ahmed Al-Hilali, spokesperson for the presidential team tasked with overseeing integration with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said Thursday in a statement that SDF will release a large batch of detainees from its prisons in Hasakah, northeast Syria.
Al-Hilali said the release will take place under the direct supervision of the Internal Security Directorate in Hasakah Governorate and comes in implementation of the Jan. 29 agreement.
He added that the step follows “intensive follow-up” by the presidential team overseeing the integration process, headed by Brig. Gen. Ziad al-Ayesh, noting that the release is scheduled on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.
“About 300 SDF members will also be released as part of the positive steps being taken by the state to resolve the detainees file,” Al-Hilali said.
The Syrian government announced on Jan. 29 a comprehensive agreement with the SDF that included a ceasefire and a phased process to integrate military and administrative structures.
The agreement also provided for the entry of security forces into the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli cities in northeast Syria and the transfer of civil institutions, government facilities and border crossings to state administration.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Ziad al-Ayesh, the presidential envoy tasked with following up implementation of the agreement, affirmed the Syrian state’s commitment to resolving the SDF detainees file as part of broader efforts to enhance security, reinforce stability and advance a comprehensive national integration process.
