Latakia, March 10 (SANA) Two Syrian soldiers were injured on Tuesday while clearing mines in the Latakia countryside.
SANA’s reporter in Latakia said the soldiers, members of the Syrian army’s engineering unit, were wounded when an anti-personnel mine exploded during a clearance operation in the village of Nahshaba in the Jabal al-Akrad area.
Engineering units have been carrying out operations to remove mines and unexploded ordnance from agricultural land and forested areas in the region, part of efforts to secure areas affected by the war and allow residents to return to their villages.
Mines and unexploded ordnance left by the deposed regime remain a major hazard in several parts of Syria, posing a continuing threat to civilians.
