Mine-clearance in Latakia and Hama, support civilian return and agricultural recovery

Damascus, March 2 (SANA) – Engineering units of the Syrian Arab Army continue mine-clearance operations in parts of Latakia and Hama countryside as part of an ongoing national plan to remove war remnants, enhance civilian safety and facilitate the return of agricultural activity.

In Lattakia countryside, engineering units are conducting extensive clearance operations in Jabal al-Akrad, targeting agricultural lands and forested areas contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance left behind by the defunct regime. The work includes systematic surveying and combing operations using mine-clearing vehicles, specialized equipment and trained technical teams tasked with safely dismantling and detonating hazardous remnants.

Officer Ammar Abdulqader of the Engineering Regiment, affiliated with the 50th Division at the Ministry of Defense, said the operations aim to eliminate threats preventing residents from returning to their villages and resuming farming activities, stressing that securing safe living conditions remains a priority.

Residents of the area welcomed the efforts, noting that the widespread presence of mines had long posed a direct threat to civilians and prevented access to farmland.

Similar operations are underway in eastern Hama countryside, where engineering teams are clearing mines and unexploded munitions across agricultural fields and road networks while responding to civilian reports of suspicious objects.

Commander Ahmad Habboush of the Engineering Regiment in the 62nd Division said the units continue to operate in previously contested areas despite significant risks, emphasizing that protecting civilians and restoring safe environments is a national duty.

Local farmers confirmed that the clearance operations have already enabled many residents to return to cultivating their lands after years of abandonment caused by the danger of hidden explosives. Authorities meanwhile urged citizens to report any suspicious objects and avoid approaching unexploded ordnance.

Officials said the ongoing operations form part of broader nationwide efforts to remove war remnants, restore stability, revive agricultural production and improve living conditions in affected rural areas.
