Damascus, Feb. 25 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management has issued a weather warning for heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas as a powerful low-pressure system is expected to affect much of the country beginning Wednesday evening.
The ministry’s early warning department said the storm will intensify overnight and continue into Thursday morning, bringing heavy rainfall to coastal areas and strong winds across several regions. Dusty conditions are also expected in eastern Syria, the Jazira region and desert areas.
The ministry said the storm system is expected to strengthen on Thursday, with wind gusts exceeding 80 kilometers per hour in the coastal mountains and in the Qalamoun and Hermon highlands.
Wind speeds between 65 and 80 km/h are forecast for Damascus countryside, Daraa, Quneitra, Tartous, Homs and its countryside, western Hama and much of Sweida province. Gusts of 50 to 65 km/h are expected in Damascus, Hama, Lattakia, Idlib, Aleppo, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir Ezzor.
Authorities warned that the strong winds could cause hazardous sea conditions along the coast.
The ministry urged residents to take precautionary measures, including suspending fishing and maritime activities from Wednesday evening, avoiding valleys, rivers and low-lying areas, and securing tents and loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds.
