Damascus, Feb. 23 (SANA) – The Syrian Development Fund held talks on Tuesday with a UN‑Habitat delegation to review housing, reconstruction and urban‑planning challenges in areas affected by the conflict, the fund said.
The meeting, led by Fund Director‑General Safwat Raslan and UN‑Habitat’s Syria head Hiroshi Takabayashi, focused on the scale of damage to the housing sector and the need for a government‑led national strategy to guide reconstruction, standardize damage assessments and set intervention priorities.
Both sides also discussed an initial concept for an affordable‑housing project that could be developed with relevant ministries, along with potential sustainable financing models to support recovery and expand options for displaced or affected families.
The visit is part of the fund’s efforts to broaden cooperation with UN agencies and advance development projects aimed at stabilizing communities and rehabilitating urban areas.
UN‑Habitat supports sustainable urban development and assists governments in designing policies to improve living conditions and expand access to adequate housing.
