Rural Damascus, Feb. 15 (SANA) – Rural Damascus municipality on Sunday unveiled an executive plan for development and service projects worth more than $70 million, funded through the “Our Countryside Deserves Better” community campaign.
Speaking at a media briefing, Governor Amer al-Sheikh said that the initiative reflects growing cooperation between local authorities, civil society and donors, describing it as a structured development effort rather than a one-off fundraising drive. He stressed that project implementation would follow clear timelines and transparency standards, with regular public updates.
Campaign organizers said the funding will be directed toward priority sectors including education, water and sanitation, road rehabilitation, public services and targeted relief, based on assessed local needs. The projects will be implemented in coordination with municipal administrations and service directorates.
According to the campaign’s financial committee, the verified funds available for implementation exceed $70 million after auditing and excluding unconfirmed or erroneous pledges. About 20% of the total is in cash contributions, while the remainder consists of in-kind support such as materials, equipment and services.
Officials said the next phase will focus on translating pledges into on-the-ground projects, as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions and rebuild basic infrastructure across the governorate.
