Damascus, Feb. 3 (SANA)– A charity bazaar showcasing handmade products by women and people with disabilities opened on Monday in Damascus ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, organizers said.
The three-day “Syrian Hands” bazaar, held at the al-Sharq Hotel, aims to support small local projects and help participants market their products, which include handicrafts, wooden items, crochet work, clothing, food products and accessories.
Organizers said the event reflects themes of social solidarity associated with Ramadan and provides participants with an opportunity to engage directly with customers and expand their reach.
Several participants said the bazaar offered an important platform for local producers. Abeer al-Aqqad, one of the exhibitors, said such events help promote local production and highlight the role of Syrian women despite difficult economic conditions.
Majda Karam, whose daughter Yasmin, a child with a disability, is taking part, said the experience helped build her daughter’s confidence and demonstrate her ability to contribute actively to society. She said the project began on a small scale and has since grown to participate in bazaars and exhibitions.
Artist Doaa al-Bastati, who paints using her feet, said her participation aimed to share her work with a wider audience and show that disability does not limit creativity.
Other participants said bazaars have become an essential tool for small businesses, offering direct access to customers and helping sustain local production as Ramadan approaches.
