Amman, Feb. 2 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Agriculture Amjad Badr discussed with his Jordanian counterpart Saeb al-Kharisat ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector during talks held Amman.
Jordan’s Petra news agency reported that the two ministers reviewed prospects for developing agriculture and exchanging technical expertise to bolster sustainable food security in both countries. Discussions covered modern farming techniques, water resource management and harvesting, pest and disease control, as well as capacity-building programs.
The two sides also examined mechanisms to enhance agricultural trade, facilitate the flow of farm products between Syria and Jordan, and regulate the transit of Syrian goods for export to regional markets. They underlined the importance of activating the quadripartite agricultural cooperation agreement linking Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.
Minister Badr outlined challenges and opportunities facing Syria’s agricultural sector, praising Jordan’s readiness to expand cooperation and technical exchange. He noted prospects for Jordanian support in combating biological threats, forestry development and strengthening plant and livestock production.
For his part, Al-Kharisat highlighted Jordan’s advances in seed technology, fertilizers and pesticides, as well as the quality of locally produced crop varieties. He stressed the need to connect private-sector actors in both countries to support efforts to rebuild Syria’s agricultural sector.
Al-Kharisat further underscored coordination in livestock development and veterinary services, particularly in combating cross-border diseases, quarantine procedures, epidemiological surveillance and early-warning systems, in cooperation with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The two ministers reaffirmed the depth of ties between Syria and Jordan and the importance of sustained joint action to advance agricultural cooperation, serve mutual interests and strengthen the sector’s resilience in both countries.
