Damascus, Feb.02 (SANA) Syria’s Interior Ministry has organized family visits for inmates at Aqtan Prison in Raqqa province as part of its regular visitation program, the Ministry said on Monday.
In a statement published on its Telegram channel, the ministry said the visits were conducted in an orderly manner and in accordance with established security and health regulations. Measures were put in place to ensure smooth entry and exit procedures and to provide an appropriate environment allowing inmates to meet their families under suitable conditions.
The ministry said the visits are part of efforts to enhance the humanitarian dimension within correctional institutions and to strengthen inmates’ family and social ties. It added that work is continuing to improve services at rehabilitation and correctional facilities, in line with the ministry’s vision of supporting reform and social reintegration.
Aqtan Prison was handed over to the Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Facilities on Jan. 23 after previously being under the control of SDF. The ministry said a comprehensive review of inmates’ conditions and personal and legal files was launched immediately following the handover to ensure proper legal procedures are applied.
In coordination with relevant ministries, dozens of detainees under the age of 18 were subsequently released. A list of inmates confirmed to be alive in the facility was published earlier by SANA, based on official records provided by the Ministry of Interior.
