Aleppo, May 17 (SANA) The Syrian government formally assumed administrative control of the Ain al-Arab district in the eastern Aleppo countryside on Sunday, in a handover ceremony attended by the district administrator, official and community figures, and representatives of civil society organizations.
District administrator Ibrahim Musallam told SANA that the new administration had officially begun its work and that a series of intensive meetings had been held to set operational mechanisms and implementation plans for the coming period. He said residents would notice an improvement in services in the near term as government institutions fully enter the area and resume operations, noting that Ain al-Arab had endured years of difficult conditions and successive conflicts, leaving significant needs in services, reconstruction, and development.
Musallam said work is proceeding in coordination with the governorate and internal security forces to meet the requirements of the new phase, with efforts focused on improving the service situation and addressing residents’ needs.
Anwar Musallam, representing civil society organizations in the district, described the current phase as critical for strengthening cohesion among Syrians and working together to serve the area and rebuild it. He noted that the district had previously suffered from marginalization compounded by the devastating impact of ISIS terrorist attacks, and stressed that the coming period requires cooperation across all components and institutions to support stability and contribute to building Syria’s future.
