Damascus, Jan. 30 (SANA) Canada’s Ambassador to Syria, Gregory Galligan, welcomed the agreement reached on Friday between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), describing it as an important step toward de-escalation and national reintegration.
He highlighted that the deal includes commitments regarding civil and educational rights for the Kurds as well as the return of displaced persons.
In a post on platform X, the Canadian envoy noted that the agreement entails an immediate ceasefire, withdrawal from frontlines, and the gradual integration of SDF fighters into state institutions.
“As with all agreements of this nature, its success will depend on fair and reliable implementation that ensures stability for all Syrians,” Galligan stated.
Earlier, the Syrian government announced that it had reached an agreement with the SDF to halt hostilities. The deal is part of a broader accord that outlines a phased process for merging military and administrative structures between the two sides.
