Riyadh, March 9 (SANA) The United States has ordered non-essential staff at its embassy in Saudi Arabia to leave the country due to security risks posed by ongoing Iranian attacks.
In a statement carried by Agence France-Presse early Monday, the U.S. State Department said it had “requested that non-essential U.S. government personnel and their family members depart the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to risks threatening their safety.”
The statement referenced ongoing concerns over continued Iranian strikes, while U.S. President Donald Trump said he was prepared for “several more weeks of war,” and Tehran declared it was also ready.
On Sunday morning, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced the interception and destruction of 16 Iranian drones that entered the Kingdom’s airspace.
Last week, drones targeted the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, while similar attacks caused damage to U.S. embassies in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
