Assessment Missions in Raqqa, Tabqa, and Deir Ezzor
Raqqa, Jan. 25 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing has identified urgent rehabilitation priorities in the country’s eastern region following an extensive field visit conducted after the area came back under government control.
A ministry delegation spent nearly a week touring five sites in Raqqa province, three locations in the city of Tabqa, and fifteen facilities and production centers in Deir Ezzor. The team evaluated damage levels, assessed service needs, and reviewed operational conditions in preparation for large-scale reconstruction efforts.
Damage to Production Centers and Government Facilities
Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs, Maher Khlouf, told SANA that the tour forms part of a comprehensive plan to restore and reactivate ministry institutions in the east.
He said the inspections revealed significant destruction, particularly at production centers that had previously been converted for military use by SDF, severely disrupting their economic role. The ministry is now developing mechanisms to rehabilitate these facilities and return them to productive operation.
Protecting State Property and Rebuilding Capacity
Khlouf added that new measures are being implemented to secure government buildings and prevent vandalism or further damage, ensuring stability during the upcoming recovery phase.
Officials also reviewed the situation of employees working in ministry-run institutions, identifying the need for training and professional development programs in several sectors to meet the demands of the next stage and improve performance.
Housing Projects and Long-Term Solutions
The delegation examined stalled housing developments and projects requiring completion, setting priorities for restoring residential units and supporting housing initiatives aimed at providing citizens with suitable accommodation as quickly as possible.
Challenges
According to the deputy minister, limited financial resources, security concerns, and weak infrastructure remain major obstacles to implementing reconstruction plans in the eastern region. He stressed that continuous coordination with other government bodies is underway to overcome these challenges and develop sustainable solutions that support recovery and rebuilding.
Infrastructure Decline
Raqqa Province, the ministry noted, suffered major deterioration in infrastructure and public services when the province was under SDF control due to negligence, malmanagement, and Illicit appropriation of national assets, making rehabilitation an urgent priority in the current phase as authorities move to restore essential facilities and revive local economies.
