Sweida, Jan. 22 (SANA) Sweida Governor Mustafa al-Bakour on Wednesday condemned outlawed groups in the province, saying they continue to carry out attacks at a time that should be governed by justice and freedom. He added that these groups reject notions of patriotism and target every independent voice.

Al-Bakour said the gangs do not target only individuals but also aim to undermine the province’s history and the legacy of Sultan Pasha al-Atrash and the revolutionaries who fought for dignity. He described last week’s attack on the “Free Will” conference as part of an ongoing effort to suppress Sweida’s residents.

The governor added that these groups oppose every reform initiative or attempt at progress, fearing stability because it exposes their history of looting and profiteering. He stressed that voices of truth in Sweida remain strong.

On Tuesday, armed members of the “National Guard” militia stormed the “Free Will” initiative conference at al-Amer Hotel, detaining participants, assaulting attendees, and damaging property. Launched in November, the initiative seeks to organize political, administrative, and economic life in Sweida while strengthening civil society and local capacities.
