Syrian Government: chaos is result of SDF organization breach of April 1st agreement

Damascus, Jan. 8 (SANA) The Syrian government affirmed that the Kurds are an essential and original part of the Syrian people, and the State regards them as full partners in the homeland, not as a separate party or an exceptional case.

“The Syrian State has provided protection and shelter for the displaced Kurdish citizens, alongside their Arab brothers, offering them housing and basic services out of its national and humanitarian responsibility, with the aim of repatriating them to their areas safely and with dignity,” the Syrian government said in a statement Thursday in comments on the currently incidents in Aleppo northern city.

The statement added that the Syrian State stresses that the solution does not lie in “the used-up media rhetoric” or the exchange of accusations, but rather in resorting to the State institutions, as they are the sole guarantor of the country’s unity and the protection of all citizens.

“The chaos and escalation we are witnessing now are a direct result of SDF organization’s violation of the April 1st agreement, which undermined previous understandings and opened the door to tension and instability,” the statement added.

It stressed that the role of the State at present is focused on securing the surroundings of Aleppo, removing sources of fire from the city, protecting civilians and preventing the situation from sliding into further escalation.

“We explicitly demand the withdrawal of militia forces from the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, and an end to this military presence that poses threat to civilian lives and obstructs any serious political solution,” the statement said.

It concluded by saying that the State reaffirms stability cannot be achieved while weapons remain outside the framework of the State. The only path to a solution is the restoration of the rule of law and institutions, safeguarding Syria’s unity and the security of all its citizens.
