Brussels, July 15 (SANA) The Group of Seven (G7) and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Wednesday called for an immediate halt to attacks on the Sudanese city of El Obeid, urging the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied armed groups to cease operations that endanger civilians as international concern grows over the conflict.
In a joint statement, the G7 foreign ministers called on all parties to stop hostilities, allow unhindered humanitarian access and engage in good-faith negotiations to resolve the crisis, according to Reuters.
The ministers expressed support for U.N.-led efforts to de-escalate the conflict and urged the U.N. Security Council to expand the existing arms embargo on Darfur to cover the whole of Sudan.
The statement also called on external actors to end military and financial support for the warring parties, stressing the need to ensure accountability for violations and reaffirming support for Sudan’s unity and the aspirations of its people for peace and stability.
The appeal follows a warning issued by the European Union on Sunday over the deteriorating security situation in El Obeid, where it said the city risked facing a scenario similar to El Fasher, where the RSF was accused of carrying out a massacre against civilians after seizing the city in October 2025.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with thousands killed and millions displaced inside the country and across its borders.
