Damascus, July 15 (SANA) Syrian authorities have launched a major debris removal campaign in the city of Arbin and along the road linking Arbin with Zamalka in Damascus countryside, as part of ongoing efforts to restore infrastructure, improve public services and accelerate early recovery in areas devastated by the war.
The operation is being carried out by the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management in cooperation with the Arbin City Council, with the aim of reopening key transport routes and facilitating reconstruction.
Shadi al-Hassan, director of the Damascus countryside Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate, told SANA that the campaign targets the removal of approximately 50,000 cubic meters of rubble.
Since work began on Monday, crews have cleared nearly 2,000 cubic meters, helping reopen major and secondary roads, improve access for residents, emergency responders and service vehicles, and support the rehabilitation of essential infrastructure.
Al-Hassan said the operation would also create a safer environment by allowing homeowners to reach their properties and begin repair work, encouraging the gradual return of residents and helping revive economic activity and public services across the city.
Arbin is among the towns in Eastern Ghouta that sustained the heaviest damage during the war. Attacks by the deposed regime left widespread destruction and vast amounts of rubble that have delayed reconstruction efforts and hindered the return of displaced residents.
The campaign forms part of a broader nationwide initiative led by the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management to remove war debris and support early recovery. Similar operations have recently been completed in Basima, Ain al-Fijah and al-Mleiha as authorities continue efforts to rehabilitate conflict-affected communities across Syria.
