Idleb, Jan. 6 (SANA) Syrian security forces have arrested a former assistant officer in the State Security Branch in Idleb, Khaled Mohammed al-Hussein, for his involvement in human rights violations against civilians during the period of the deposed regime.
Brigadier General Ghassan Bakir, head of internal security in Idleb, said in a statement published on the Ministry of Interior’s Telegram channel that preliminary investigations indicated al-Hussein had acted as an interrogator, targeting opponents of the deposed regime and fabricating charges against them.
Bakir added that following Idleb’s liberation from the ousted regime control, al-Hussein moved to Hama province, where he worked in the Studies Department of the security branches until the regime’s fall.
The detainee has been referred to the competent judiciary in accordance with Syrian laws and regulations.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by interior Ministry to hold deposed regime officials accountable for crimes committed against civilians.
