Damascus Countryside, Jan. 5 (SANA) Internal Security units in Damascus Countryside, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, conducted a security operation on Monday in the town of al-Adiliyah in the al-Kiswah area south of the province, following continued monitoring of an individual affiliated with ISIS.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the operation resulted in the arrest of the wanted suspect. Authorities seized a suicide belt, silencers, hand grenades, as well as a machine gun and ammunition prepared for carrying out assassinations. A laptop and digital materials were also confiscated, which the ministry said demonstrate the suspect’s involvement in planning terrorist acts.
The ministry said all seized items were confiscated and the suspect was referred to the Counterterrorism Directorate to complete investigations.
The Interior Ministry noted that its specialized units, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, have carried out a series of security operations in Damascus Countryside province in recent months. Those operations led to the arrest of the ISIS ringleader in Damascus (Wali of Damascus), identified as Taha al-Zoubi, and the killing of ISIS operative Mohammad Shahada, described as a senior leader in the organization who held the position of “Wali of Horan.”
