Ministry of Emergency launches official volunteer platform in Syria

Damascus, Jan.5 (SANA)   The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management on Monday launched the official link to Syria’s national volunteer platform, aimed at organizing volunteer efforts and promoting a culture of volunteerism across the country.

The launch took place during a ceremony held at the National Library in Damascus.

Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh said the platform reflects the ministry’s national vision to build a comprehensive, flexible, and sustainable volunteer system that strengthens community preparedness and supports effective response to emergencies and disasters.

Al-Saleh stressed that disaster response is not solely a government responsibility, but requires genuine partnership with society. He noted that Syria’s experiences during the 2023 earthquake and the 2025 Latakia fires highlighted the urgent need for well-trained and systematically organized volunteer teams to support official response efforts.

For his part, Director of the Ministry’s Volunteer Department Ahmad Yazji said the platform aims to establish an integrated volunteer framework that enhances community readiness, improves emergency response, and reinforces values of solidarity and national responsibility.

Yazji added that the ministry is entering a new phase guided by a clear vision, emphasizing that organized volunteer work is a key pillar in building resilient communities. He underlined that young people represent a genuine partner in this effort, playing a central role in strengthening society’s capacity to withstand and respond to crises.
