Damascus, Jan. 4 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Awqaf, Mohammad Abu al-Khair Shukri, and Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Edlebi inspected damage to al-Mohammadi Mosque in the Mazzeh district after it was struck by a rocket on Saturday evening, ordering that repair begin immediately.
In a statement to SANA, Shukri described the targeting of places of worship as a “moral crime” intended to undermine the country’s stability, adding that the mosque would be restored swiftly to resume its religious and educational role.
Governor Edlebi said the attack caused no injuries, reaffirming the state’s commitment to protecting places of worship and noting that the mosque would reopen soon. He added that such attacks are aimed at disrupting stability and development, stressing that those responsible would be held accountable.
The Mazzeh area was hit Saturday evening by three rocket shells. One struck the mosque’s dome, another hit a telecommunications building, and a third landed near Mazzeh Airport. No casualties were reported.
