Syria, South Korea hold talks on strengthening bilateral relations

Damascus, Dec. 4 (SANA) Director of Arab Affairs at Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, held talks on Thursday with a delegation from the Republic of South Korea on ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, included a comprehensive review of the current state of Syrian–Korean relations, with particular emphasis on prospects for high-level exchanges and mechanisms to further develop ties in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both sides.

Discussions also covered several areas of sector-specific cooperation, including economic collaboration, expanding opportunities for official development assistance, and broadening cultural and educational exchange programs. The two sides also explored prospects for cooperation in other fields of shared interest.

On the international level, both delegations stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination in multilateral forums on issues of common concern. They also exchanged views on regional developments in the Middle East, the situation in Syria, and the latest developments on the Korean Peninsula.

The two sides agreed to determine the venue and date for the next round of political consultations during the first half of 2026, to ensure the continuity of dialogue and the steady development of bilateral relations.

Earlier today, Damascus hosted the opening of the First Syrian–Korean Economic Forum, held under the patronage of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economy, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), at the Seven Gates Hotel in Damascus.
