Syria, Jordan and Lebanon discuss expanding gas and power cooperation in Amman

Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon held a trilateral meeting in the Jordanian capital to on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the gas and electricity sectors, according to a statement by Syria’s Energy Ministry.

The ministers reviewed the status of existing interconnection networks and confirmed the technical readiness of the Syrian-Jordanian power link, according to the statement published on the Ministry’s Telegram channel. They also discussed steps to establish a phased mechanism for a three-way electrical interconnection to reinforce regional grid stability.

The meeting also addressed the maintenance needs of the gas pipelines between Syria and Lebanon. The ministers agreed to begin repairing existing faults and to establish a joint technical team to prepare the infrastructure for the resumption of gas transport under agreed-upon technical standards.

According to the statement, Syria’s Energy Minister, Mohammad al-Bashir, emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among the three countries to enhance energy reliability. The ministers concluded by agreeing to continue coordinating and holding regular follow-up meetings
