Syria, Canada Discuss Cooperation on Early Warning and Wildfire Response

Syrian Minister of Emergency Management and Disaster Response Raed al-Saleh met Thursday with Canadian Ambassador to Damascus Gregory Galligan to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in early warning systems, demining, and wildfire response.

During the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, al-Saleh underscored the importance of developing joint mechanisms between Syria and Canada to address environmental and humanitarian challenges. He commended the Canadian government’s role in supporting humanitarian response and lifesaving efforts in recent years and said the ministry looks forward to expanding cooperation toward sustainable recovery programs that promote peace and bolster community resilience.

Ambassador Galligan expressed Canada’s readiness to continue supporting Syria’s disaster management efforts, including sharing technical expertise in early warning and demining to help protect civilians and enhance stability.

The meeting was part of Syria’s broader efforts to strengthen international cooperation in confronting the impacts of natural and humanitarian disasters and to develop institutional capacity for rapid response.
