Italy Stresses Need to Support Syria’s Stability and Respect Its Sovereignty

Italy’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, emphasized the importance of supporting Syria’s stability and respecting its sovereignty.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, Tripodi made the remarks during the joint ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) held in Kuwait on Monday.

“Achieving peace in Gaza, along with ensuring stability in Syria and Lebanon, is an integral part of Italy’s vision for peace and security in the Middle East, where the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council play a crucial role,” Tripodi said.

The Italian official underscored the need to strengthen stability in Syria, advance the political process, and uphold the country’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas noted during the meeting that there have been “encouraging developments in Syria.” She stressed that international political and financial support will be essential to ensure that all Syrians benefit from reconstruction efforts.
