Russia affirms readiness to support energy sector and humanitarian needs in Syria

Moscow, SANA-During a visit to Damascus, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced Russia’s readiness to assist in rehabilitating Syria’s energy sector and to contribute to humanitarian relief through projects aimed at supplying fuel, food, and medicine.

A statement issued by the Russian government highlighted discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy and humanitarian fields. Novak also proposed resuming the work of the Joint Governmental Committee for Economic Cooperation, which has served as an effective framework for coordination between the two countries.

The talks further addressed cultural, scientific, and educational collaboration, with the statement noting that approximately 4,000 Syrian students are currently enrolled in Russian universities—forming a vital base for developing qualified national expertise.

Novak emphasized the strength of Syrian-Russian relations, rooted in mutual respect and shared interests, expressing hope for deeper cooperation in the new historical phase. The Russian delegation also held discussions with Syrian officials covering key areas including security, defense, politics, and economics.
