Damascus, Jan.18 (SANA) Arab and international leaders have welcomed a ceasefire agreement and the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions, describing it as a key step toward strengthening Syria’s unity, stability and state sovereignty.
The agreement, signed Sunday by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, drew broad regional and international support as a move toward consolidating state authority across Syrian territory.
In a series of phone calls, President al-Sharaa discussed recent developments with regional and international leaders, stressing the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and extending state sovereignty nationwide. The talks included Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron, all of whom voiced support for efforts to achieve lasting stability in Syria.
In a separate call with Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Masoud Barzani, both sides reaffirmed Syria’s unity and sovereignty. Barzani praised Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2026, which guarantees the rights and cultural specificities of Kurds in Syria.
U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack welcomed the agreement, calling it a “pivotal turning point” toward a unified and stable Syria, and said Washington would support the integration process, particularly in relation to counterterrorism efforts against ISIS.
France’s Foreign Ministry urged all parties to fully implement the agreement, while Turkey expressed hope it would help accelerate security and stability based on Syria’s territorial unity.
Several Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Kuwait, also welcomed the agreement, reaffirming their support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and stability.
International organizations, including the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Muslim World League, said the agreement could help strengthen civil peace and support humanitarian and stabilization efforts across the country.
