Minister Anjarani and a UN official discuss about the possibility of cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Local Administration and Environment Mohammed Anjarani discussed Wednesday with Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), ways to enhance decentralization and develop local governance mechanisms in Syria.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry’s building in Damascus, the two sides discussed frameworks for technical and training cooperation between the Ministry and ESCWA, including specialized workshops and applied studies to build the capacity of local administrative cadres.

Anjarani reviewed the Ministry of Local Administration’s strategic vision for transferring powers to local councils and ensuring effective civil society participation.

In turn, Dashti presented the results of ESCWA field studies with Syrian communities abroad and ways to use those results to enhance local services.
