Damascus, SANA- Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Mohammed Anjarani, discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Damascus, Jessica Svardström, ways of joint cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two countries.
Anjarani praised Sweden’s stance, which was among the first countries to welcome Syrian refugees and provide them with assistance. He emphasized the importance of developing relations between the two countries in the areas of local administration, services, the environment, and the exchange of expertise.
Minister Anjarani pointed out to the challenges hindering the work and rebuilding of the local administration system after the massive destruction caused by the defunct regime, which far exceeds the current capabilities and initiatives for rebuilding all sectors.
He indicated that a process is underway to restructure the ministry in a new way that is compatible with the next phase and its requirements. Anjarani highlighted the importance of building and developing local councils and training their cadres to ensure they provide highly qualified services. He also emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the return of displaced persons by rehabilitating their cities, towns, and villages.
In turn, Svardström highlighted Sweden’s humanitarian support to the Syrian people over the past years, stressing the need to work towards early recovery in Syria.
She hoped for increased cooperation and coordination between the two countries to include other sectors such as trade, she pointed out the need to work to restore and enable trade ties between the two countries.
