UK’s Lammy: Sustainable ceasefire in southern Syria is vital

London, SANA – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stressed that a sustainable ceasefire in Sweida is crucial.

Lammy said Saturday in a post on his X account: We are “horrified by the violence in Southern Syria”, stressing the need to “see the fighting ended, civilians protected and humanitarian access enabled”.

He added that he spoke yesterday with the Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani as part of the UK’s efforts to call for a peaceful solution.”

Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Republic Presidency announced a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire, calling on all parties to adhere to it.

Bedouin tribes and armed groups in Sweida Governorate have clashed in recent days, resulting in numerous casualties.
