Jumblatt calls for ceasefire in Sweida

Beirut, SANA- Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt , called for a ceasefire in Sweida as a step toward dialogue between local factions and the Syrian state to resolve the crisis.

“We must use reason before becoming emotional. I propose to the people and everyone a ceasefire in preparation for dialogue between the Syrian state and activists in Sweida.” In a press statement today following an extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly of the Druze Religious Council in Lebanon, Jumblatt said.

He added, “We must affirm the principles of Jabal al-Arab, as Sweida is an integral part of Syria.”

Jumblatt called for the formation of an investigative committee to uncover crimes and violations against the people of Sweida and against members of the tribes, affirming that the Bedouins are an integral part of Jabal al-Arab and the importance of halting incitement campaigns.

He reiterated his condemnation of the Israeli attacks on Syria and Lebanon.
