QFFD: Supporting electricity in Syria is a continuation of efforts to support Syrians

Doha, SANA – The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) confirmed that the launch of the second phase of support for the energy sector in Syria on August 2 is a continuation of its efforts to support our Syrian brothers.

Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted QFFD as saying in a statement that the second phase will begin Saturday, August 2nd, and will be implemented with a capacity of 800 megawatts, in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Energy, for a full year, and Syria will be supplied with electricity via Azerbaijan and Turkey, arriving at the Aleppo power plant, which will receive the supplies and distribute them to various cities and neighborhoods across the country.

The Fund clarified that with this support, the total contributions of the Qatar Fund for Development to the electricity sector in the Syrian Arab Republic amount to more than $760 million, affirming the State of Qatar’s firm commitment to supporting the brotherly Syrian people and strengthening vital infrastructure to ensure a decent and safe life for citizens.

Syrian Energy Minister, Mohammad al-Bashir, confirmed in a previous statement that Syria will begin receiving 3.4 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan to Aleppo province via Turkish territory starting August 2, generating approximately 900 MW of electricity. This step will contribute to enhancing the stability of the electricity grid.
