Azerbaijani gas supply to Jandar power plant in Homs governorate begins

Homs, SANA- As a part of improving Syria’s electricity production capacity, Azerbaijani natural gas supply to Jandar power plant in Homs Governorate has begun on Saturday

That was done in the presence of Deputy Energy Minister, Ghiath Diab and Homs Governor Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Ama.

Deputy Energy Minister told SANA that operating the plant on natural gas will contribute to improving the electricity situation, as the plant is expected to produce between 700 and 800 MW per day, which in turn will increase the hours of electricity supply across Syria’s various governorates.

He said that this step represents a qualitative shift in the energy sector, and that work is ongoing to meet all citizens’ electricity needs.

In turn, Director of Jandar power plant, Eng. Abdul Rahman al-Ali, said that rehabilitating the first steam turbine at the station will be completed soon with an increase of 90 MW.

Assistant Director General of Oil and Gas Department, Eng. Riyadh al-Jubasi, noted that the station will receive about 1.4 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to operate the first gas turbine.

He added that the actual generation capacity, after operating Nasiriyah and Tishreen stations in the coming days, will reach approximately 900 MW.
