Syrian Minister of Tourism Mazen al-Salhani met with Samer Alkharashi, Regional Director of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the Middle East, to discuss ways to enhance tourism and support local communities in Syria.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the provision of specialized studies aimed at supporting local communities, with the goal of developing tourist-friendly destinations that provide sustainable sources of income.

They also explored ways to enhance archaeological sites by applying the latest safety standards for visitors, in order to boost their tourism appeal. The discussion included linking these sites to local development projects that involve community participation and investment in infrastructure and tourism services.
