Beijing, Oct. 13 (SANA) Belgium’s Zizou Bergs pulled off the biggest win of his career on Monday, defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to knock the world No. 1 out of the Shanghai Masters in the round of 32.
Bergs won 7-5, 7-6 in a match lasting two hours and two minutes, capitalizing on Alcaraz’s unforced errors to secure a place in the last 16, Reuters reported.
Alcaraz’s early exit adds to a growing list of high-profile departures from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, which also includes Novak Djokovic and Ben Shelton.
The defeat also confirmed Germany’s Alexander Zverev as the ATP year-end world No. 1, making him the first German player to finish a season at the top of the rankings.
