Oslo and Augsburg, Sept. 28 (SANA) Greece beat Germany 1-0 in Augsburg on Sunday for its first victory over the Germans, while Portugal won 2-1 in Norway to make it two wins from two in the UEFA Nations League.
Substitute Dimitris Kourbelis scored Greece’s winner with a deflected shot in the 74th minute. Greece had failed to beat Germany in their previous 10 meetings, according to UEFA.
Germany’s best chance came in the first half, when Karim Adeyemi tested goalkeeper Kostas Tzolakis with a curling shot. Greece had opened its campaign with a 2-1 win over Serbia, while Germany, coached by Jürgen Klopp, began with a 1-1 draw away to the Netherlands.
In Oslo, João Félix put Portugal ahead in the 17th minute. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa twice denied Erling Haaland before the break, but Haaland equalized in the 51st minute after Costa parried a Martin Ødegaard free kick.
Three minutes later, Gonçalo Ramos intercepted a pass from Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland and lobbed the ball into the net from outside the area. Rafael Leão later struck the crossbar with a deflected shot.
Portugal had opened with a 1-0 home win over Wales, also decided by a João Félix goal, in Jorge Jesus’ first match as coach. Sunday’s defeat was Norway’s first at home since a 1-0 loss to Spain in Euro 2024 qualifying in 2023.
Greece leads its group with six points, followed by the Netherlands on four and Germany on one. Serbia has no points. Greece hosts the Netherlands on October 1, when Portugal visits Denmark.
