Tokyo, Sep. 27 (SANA) An 11-year-old Japanese player has won the gold medal in the esports competition at the Asian Games being held in Aichi-Nagoya, after winning the Puyo Puyo Champions event.
Reuters reported on Saturday that Yuki Kurihara defeated South Korea’s Kang Dong-shin 10–2 in the final. Kurihara had topped his group in the preliminary round before defeating competitors from Singapore and Thailand in the knockout stages.
Kurihara said he was happy with the victory, describing the gold medal as “beautiful, shiny and heavy.” He noted that he had faced in the final the player he had wanted to compete against.
Esports competitions are being held as part of the Asian Games, where the sport was officially included in the program beginning with the 2023 edition. The Aichi-Nagoya Games feature competitions in several esports titles and are scheduled to conclude in early October.
