London, Sept. 29 (SANA) A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening, causing a fire on board, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Tuesday.
The fire was extinguished, the vessel continued its voyage and all crew members were reported safe, UKMTO said, citing a delayed report from a third party.
The agency did not identify the vessel or say where the projectile came from or who was responsible.
UKMTO reported a separate strike on a tanker in the strait on Sept. 21. Two crew members suffered minor injuries, but the tanker remained under its own power and continued to its next port, the agency said.
The latest report comes as oil traffic through the strait has increased despite continuing disruption. Energy data provider Vortexa said shipments of oil products were running at about 65% to 70% of pre-war levels, according to dpa. It put the weekly average for crude oil transit at 11.2 million barrels per day.
The United States and Iran continued talks through mediators after President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the strait, Scripps News reported.
