Paris, Aug 27 (SANA) Fenerbahçe advanced to the UEFA Champions League league phase after beating hosts Lyon 2-1 at Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France, on Wednesday, completing a 3-2 aggregate victory in the playoff round.
Vedat Muriqi opened the scoring for the Turkish side in the 24th minute before Archie Brown doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Lyon responded through Malick Fofana in the 61st minute, but Fenerbahçe held on to secure qualification.
Two Lyon goals were disallowed following video assistant referee reviews.
The first leg in Istanbul ended 1-1, leaving Fenerbahçe with a 3-2 aggregate victory and a place in the Champions League league phase.
The result marks Fenerbahçe’s return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2008-09 season
