Rabat, July 27 (SANA) Algeria opened its 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a 2-0 victory over Senegal on Sunday in the Group A opener of the tournament hosted by Morocco.
Marine Dafeur gave Algeria the lead in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot before Melissa Bethi doubled the advantage in the 88th minute to secure victory.
The win earned Algeria its first three points of the tournament and moved it to the top of Group A, while Senegal remained without a point after its opening match and will seek its first points in the upcoming fixtures.
Group A also includes hosts Morocco and Kenya, who were scheduled to face each other later on Sunday.
