Haiti, competing in the World Cup for the first time since 1974, became the first team to be eliminated from contention for the knockout stage. New Zealand must defeat Belgium to keep its hopes of advancing alive.

Syria failed to qualify for the World Cup finals after finishing third in its group in the second round of the Asian qualifiers, following defeats to North Korea and Japan.

Jordan is competing in the World Cup finals for the first time in its history, while Iraq and Egypt have returned to the tournament after a prolonged absence. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria are also participating.

The tournament, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, is being held from June 11 to July 19.
