Idlib, April 6 (SANA) – Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Border Crossings has begun work on a project to rehabilitate and expand the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Türkiye, as part of efforts to modernize border infrastructure and improve operational capacity.

Mustafa Hallak, head of public relations at the Bab al-Hawa crossing, said the project includes the redevelopment and expansion of all sections of the crossing, the construction of new freight roads and separate lanes for passenger vehicles, and the rehabilitation of traveler halls along with the creation of additional service facilities.

The measures aim to increase the crossing’s capacity, speed up procedures for travelers and cargo trucks, and improve the efficiency of services provided at the border point.

Mohammad Haj Ayoub, head of the technical and engineering studies department at the Syrian General Establishment for Construction and Building, said the project is expected to take between six and nine months to complete. The works include expanding road networks, upgrading drainage systems, constructing staff housing buildings, rehabilitating gates and hangars, and adding new entry gates and weighing stations to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

The expansion area will cover about 200,000 square meters, most of which will be dedicated to roads and traffic organization to improve the movement of vehicles entering and leaving the crossing.
