Rabat, Jan.15 (SANA) The Senegal national football team reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday after defeating Egypt 1-0 in their semifinal match of the continental tournament hosted by Morocco.
The decisive moment came in the 78th minute when forward Sadio Mané fired a powerful shot that the Egyptian goalkeeper was unable to stop, giving Senegal the breakthrough after a closely fought contest.
The victory extended Senegal’s impressive run in the competition. The team topped Group D during the group stage with convincing wins over Botswana and Benin, both by 3-0 scorelines, before drawing 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In the knockout rounds, Senegal continued their momentum by defeating Sudan 3-1 in the round of 16, edging Mali 1-0 in the quarterfinals, and then overcoming Egypt to secure a place in the final.
Senegal will face the winner of the second semifinal between Nigeria and Morocco, scheduled to be played later on Saturday, in the tournament’s title match.
