Rabat, Jan. 6 (SANA) Both Nigeria and Egypt have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following decisive victories in the round of 16.
Nigeria defeated Mozambique 4-0 to advance, with Ademola Lookman opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Victor Osimhen then added the second and third goals in the 25th and 47th minutes, before Akor Adams completed the scoring in the 75th minute.
Earlier, Egypt overcame Benin 3-1 after extra time. Marwan Attia gave Egypt the lead in the 69th minute, but Godel Dossou equalized for Benin in the 83rd. In extra time, Attia set up Yasser Ibrahim for Egypt’s second goal in the 97th minute, and Mohamed Salah sealed the victory with a goal in the 120+4th minute.
With these wins, both teams move on to the quarterfinal stage of Africa’s premier football tournament.
