President al-Sharaa appoints President of Supreme Constitutional Court

President al-Sharaa appoints President of Supreme Constitutional Court
President al-Sharaa issues decree appointing Head of Supreme Constitutional Court

Damascus, July 7 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued on Tuesday decree No. (149) of 2026 appointing Issam Khaled al-Khalif as President of the Supreme Constitutional Court.

According to the decree, six members were appointed in the Supreme Constitutional Court.

Under the decree, the court will exercise constitutional review over laws and regulations and provide opinions on the constitutionality of draft legislation at the request of the President of the Republic.

The court will also issue opinions on the constitutionality of proposed legislation upon the request of the President of the Republic or the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, and interpret the provisions of the Constitutional Declaration upon request from either authority.

Earlier on Sunday, President al-Sharaa issued legislative decrees establishing “The National University for Defense Sciences”, and “The Syrian University for Security Sciences”.
