Tartous, June 7 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa attended on Sunday the opening ceremony of the 2026 Tartous Tourism Season, held at the Festivals Square on the city’s seafront promenade.

The event marked the launch of the annual tourism season in the coastal province and was attended by officials, tourism stakeholders and members of the public.

Speaking during the ceremony, Tartous Governor Ahmad al-Shami highlighted the province’s diverse tourism assets, noting that Tartous enjoys a unique combination of coastal and mountainous landscapes that enhance its position as a distinguished tourism destination.

For his part, Minister of Tourism Mazen al-Salhani outlined ongoing efforts to build sustainable tourism along the Syrian coast, stressing the importance of government support for the tourism sector, strengthening tourism attractiveness and stimulating economic activity.

The event featured a promotional presentation showcasing Tartous Province and its most prominent natural and tourism attractions. Paragliding performances were also held, adding a distinctive atmosphere to the opening of the tourism season.

Earlier on Sunday, President al-Sharaa visited several tourist and heritage sites on Arwad Island in Tartous, as part of efforts to support tourism and reinforce national economic recovery.
