Tartous, June 7 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa visited on Sunday several tourist and heritage sites on Arwad Island in Tartous, as part of efforts to support tourism and reinforce national economic recovery.

During his participation in the Tartous Tourism Season 2026 event, President al-Sharaa said in a statement to the Syrian al-Ikhbariya channel that “Syria has returned to its people,” stressing that Arwad Island had been neglected in the past, and that the visit sends a clear message of commitment to transforming Tartous and Latakia into a new platform for rebuilding the Syrian economy.

President al-Sharaa noted that this marks the first visit by a Syrian president to Arwad Island, describing it as a direct affirmation of the state’s strong interest in revitalizing the economy through optimal investment in the island’s potential.

The president added that the future of Syria will be better, emphasizing that the country is moving toward progress and prosperity, with significant job opportunities expected through projects being developed and directed toward the Syrian coast.
